Fixed term contract: 6 months
Hours per week: 37.5 (Monday to Friday)
Location: Sutton, London and Addis Ababa (Ethiopia)

The World Hydropower Congress, hosted by the International Hydropower Association, is the world’s most important gathering of hydropower decision-makers. The next congress will take place in May 2017 in partnership with the African Union Commission, and will be convened in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. We are looking for a confident and organized individual to support the team and help us deliver this important initiative.

Job description

As Congress Executive, you will be working with the Communications Director to deliver on the following:

Key tasks:

  • Implement key outreach activities to support the event marketing strategy
  • Identify key contacts and organize preparatory meetings
  • Communicate directly with delegate leads and assist in their registration process
  • Liaise with speakers; typically, figureheads from industry, finance and government
  • Support arrangements for congress logistics
  • Manage delegations from booking to logistics and on-site services
  • Support the delivery of the event on-site in Addis Ababa
  • Act as the main point of contact for congress queries

Essential skills and attributes:

  • At least three years of previous experience working in a similar role
  • Problem-solver with strong event administration and coordination experience
  • Demonstrated international awareness and ability to work across cultures
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload
  • Proficient in modern information and communications technology
  • Willingness to travel internationally at short notice
  • Ability to work independently, with good team-working capabilities

  • Excellent relationship-building skills
  • Commitment to offer the highest standard of customer service
  • Experience with CRM systems
  • Experience dealing with international heads of organisations and government officials
