Technical Coordinator – Seed Physiology Quality Laboratory
Role Purpose
The Technical Coordinator will serve as the Quality Testing (QT) point person and first contact for external stakeholders, including accreditation bodies. The role supports the Seed Testing Unit with expertise across the testing lifecycle, from sampling to result communication, with a strong coaching mindset.
The Coordinator is responsible for managing all seed physiology quality tests (viability, germination, vigor, and related tests), overseeing technical operations, and ensuring accurate, reliable results aligned with standards and regulations. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to quality systems, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
1. Laboratory Operations & Improvement

Plan and oversee daily physiology lab operations to meet compliance, quality, and stakeholder requirements.

Track, log, and ensure data accuracy for all samples.

Deliver timely test results in line with SLA and KPIs.

Implement, validate, and improve testing technologies and methodologies.

Continuously monitor processes, resolve bottlenecks, and drive efficiency.
2. Resource Coordination & Compliance

Manage laboratory capacity (teams, equipment, resources) to minimize delays.

Oversee lab budgets (OPEX & CAPEX), forecasting needs while promoting cost efficiency.

Ensure compliance with SOPs, regulatory, sustainability, and accreditation standards (QMS, GLP, GMP, ISO, ISTA, HSE, OnePSS).

Conduct risk assessments, ensure safety practices, and participate in audits and proficiency testing.

Sign off certificates and oversee completion of preliminary certificates and reports.
3. Data Analysis & Interpretation

Use statistical methods and visualization tools to analyze and interpret test data.

Validate quality control checks and communicate results to stakeholders.

Lead investigations for non-conformance, identifying trends and corrective actions.
4. Equipment & Vendor Management

Oversee maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of lab equipment.

Manage vendor services for equipment repairs, upgrades, and consumables inventory.
5. Training & Development
-
Train and coach laboratory teams on new technologies, data analysis, and safety protocols.

Promote a collaborative and inclusive work culture.

Actively participate in local, regional, and global projects and surveys, sharing best practices in seed physiology testing.
6. Communication & Collaboration

Communicate results clearly and provide technical expertise to internal stakeholders.

Collaborate with breeding, research, and production teams to align testing methods with needs.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications
-
Education: BSc in Agriculture, Botany, Microbiology, or related field
-
Practical seed analyst training, with knowledge of ISO and GLP
-
Qualified Seed Analyst with 3–5 years of experience in a seed laboratory

Knowledge of both Seed Physiology and Seed Genetics

Experience with SAP systems

Strong planning, organizational, technical, and analytical skills

Strong networking and relationship-building skills

Ability to work under pressure and resolve challenges effectively
