Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) Job Vacancy 2025 – Junior Researcher Positions for Fresh Graduates

The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) is inviting qualified and passionate applicants to apply for several Junior Researcher positions.

Founded in 1970 through the collaboration of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations and the Ethiopian Ministry of Health, AHRI is one of Ethiopia’s most respected biomedical research institutions. The Institute is named after Dr. Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, the Norwegian scientist who discovered Mycobacterium leprae, the bacterium that causes leprosy.

For over five decades, AHRI has been a center of excellence in biomedical research, clinical trials, and research capacity building. It operates under the Federal Ministry of Health and continues to play a key role in advancing public health and scientific innovation in Ethiopia and beyond.


💼 1. Junior Researcher – Public Health or Health Informatics

Educational Qualification:

  • BSc Degree in Public Health or Health Informatics from a recognized university.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Fresh graduates (0 years of experience) are eligible.
  • Minimum CGPA of 3.00 for male and 2.75 for female applicants.
  • Willingness to travel and work in rural and remote areas for extended periods.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Afan Oromo (both oral and written).

Additional Skills (Advantages):

  • Experience using data collection tools such as ODK, REDCap, or KoboToolbox.
  • Knowledge of data analysis using R or STATA.
  • Basic understanding of research methodology and study design.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and internet use.
  • Strong teamwork, adaptability, and interpersonal communication skills.

Salary: ETB 10,386.00 per month
Duty Station: Addis Ababa, with frequent travel to West Arsi Zone (Shashemene Zuria, Negele Arsi, and Shalla Woredas), Oromia Region.
Employment Type: One-year full-time contract (renewable based on performance and budget availability).


💼 2. Junior Researcher – Medical Laboratory Technologist

Educational Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in a clinical or research laboratory, preferably in malaria diagnostics.

Key Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficiency in blood collection and biological sample handling.
  • Experience in malaria microscopy, RDTs, and other laboratory techniques.
  • Knowledge of laboratory quality control and biosafety procedures.
  • Fluency in Afan Oromo (spoken and written) is mandatory.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to interact with study participants professionally.

Salary: ETB 10,386.00 per month
Duty Station: Addis Ababa, with frequent travel to Shalla Woreda (West Arsi Zone, Oromia Region).
Employment Type: One-year full-time contract (renewable).


💼 3. Junior Researcher – Malaria Microscopist

Educational Qualification:

  • BSc Degree in Laboratory Sciences/Technology from a recognized institution.

Experience:

  • Prior experience in malaria microscopy is an added advantage.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Knowledge of laboratory quality control and biosafety protocols.
  • Basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently, under pressure, and with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work off-hours, including weekends or holidays if needed.

Salary: ETB 10,386.00 per month
Duty Station: Addis Ababa, with frequent travel to Shalla Woreda, West Arsi Zone.
Employment Type: One-year full-time contract (renewable based on performance and budget availability).
