🚗 Position: Driver, GS-2 (6 Positions)

Key Responsibilities

As a Driver at UNICEF Ethiopia, you will be responsible for providing safe, reliable, and efficient transport and logistical support to the organization’s operations. Your duties will include:

1. Safe and Reliable Driving

  • Drive UNICEF staff, consultants, and visitors to official destinations, including remote field sites.
  • Adhere strictly to local traffic regulations and UNICEF safety standards.
  • Provide courteous and professional service when transporting staff and guests.
  • Meet and assist staff or officials at airports and assist with minor protocol arrangements if required.

2. Vehicle Maintenance and Readiness

  • Perform daily inspections (fuel, oil, tires, brakes, lights, and battery).
  • Keep the vehicle clean and well-maintained.
  • Arrange timely servicing and repairs in coordination with supervisors.
  • Ensure vehicles are equipped with all required safety and emergency materials (first-aid kit, tools, fire extinguisher, etc.).

3. Trip Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate trip logs (mileage, destinations, fuel usage, maintenance).
  • Use digital fleet systems such as the UN Mobility Tool or Vehicle Tracking System (VTS).
  • Report incidents, delays, or maintenance needs promptly.

4. Emergency and Communication Support

  • Use VHF/HF radios and mobile phones to maintain contact during field missions.
  • Be familiar with UNICEF’s emergency procedures and respond appropriately in crisis situations.
  • Support logistics teams during humanitarian operations when required.

5. Office Support

  • Perform minor office errands such as mail delivery and document transport.
  • Participate in safety briefings and required online learning (e.g., road safety, ethics, digital systems).

✅ Required Qualifications

  • Education: Secondary (high school) education completed.
  • License: Valid Ethiopian driver’s license with clean driving record.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of professional driving experience with a UN agency, embassy, or international organization.
  • Languages: Fluency in English and the local language of the duty station is required.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent knowledge of local routes and driving regulations.
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Proven reliability and ability to operate safely in difficult or remote conditions.
