Role Overview

CURE Ethiopia is seeking an experienced Pediatric Orthopedic Spine Surgeon to help establish and develop a pioneering operative spinal program – the first of its kind in Ethiopia.

This is a unique opportunity for a mission-driven surgeon to not only transform the lives of children suffering from spinal deformities but also to train and mentor the next generation of spine specialists in Ethiopia.

Flexible arrangements (full-time or part-time) will be considered for the right candidate.


Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patients with musculoskeletal disabilities and create appropriate management plans.
  • Diagnose and treat spinal disorders with both operative and non-operative approaches.
  • Perform spinal surgeries using the highest standards of sterile operative technique and patient care.
  • Counsel patients and families regarding treatment options, risks, and procedures.
  • Participate in mobile outreach clinics across Ethiopia when required.
  • Maintain detailed patient records in Electronic Medical Records and/or paper charts.
  • Recognize and respond to complications, ensuring full compliance with hospital safety protocols.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including audits and research.
  • Actively engage in training and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows.
  • Support the development of a sustainable spine program through partnerships with international institutions.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Medical degree from a recognized institution.
  • Completed residency in orthopedic surgery.
  • Fellowship training in pediatric orthopedics with spinal surgery specialization.
  • Current and valid medical license.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in hospital or private practice.
  • Strong interest in teaching and training future specialists.
  • Moderate English proficiency required (fluency preferred).
  • Cross-cultural communication skills and ability to work in diverse settings.
