Position Summary
CBM is seeking a Security & Safeguarding Advisor to lead the implementation of its global security and safeguarding strategy across Eastern and Southern Africa. This role ensures the safety of CBM staff, partners, and programmes by developing risk assessments, mitigation measures, and early-warning systems, while integrating safeguarding and security into project design and delivery.
The Advisor will collaborate with country offices and the global team to provide training, guidance, and technical support, strengthening CBM’s security and safeguarding culture.
Key Responsibilities

Develop, update, and implement safeguarding and security plans tailored to local contexts.

Conduct risk assessments and provide recommendations for mitigation.

Provide training, coaching, and capacity building for country office staff and partners.

Monitor compliance with CBM’s minimum operational standards and promote continuous improvement.

Lead or advise on responses to security or safeguarding incidents.

Collaborate with internal teams and external networks to track emerging risks and share best practices.

Ensure integration of disability-inclusive and gender-sensitive approaches in all safeguarding and security initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
-
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Administration, Management, Social Sciences, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
Experience:
-
Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in security and/or safeguarding management, preferably within an INGO.

Proven expertise in safeguarding, risk assessment, incident management, and implementation of prevention measures.

Strong experience in personnel and organizational security, including threat assessments and mitigation strategies.

Track record of developing and implementing Security & Safeguarding Plans across diverse contexts.

Experience in training, coaching, and capacity building.

Willingness to travel frequently, including to high-risk or remote areas.
