The World Bank Group plays a key role in supporting Ethiopia’s development and economic transformation. Its energy portfolio includes programs that promote power sector reform, renewable energy access, grid and off-grid electrification, solar mini-grids, clean cooking initiatives, and regional electricity interconnections.

To strengthen its team in Addis Ababa, the World Bank invites qualified Ethiopian professionals to apply for the following positions:


🔹 Position 1: Financial Sector Specialist

Key Responsibilities

The Financial Sector Specialist will contribute to advancing financial inclusion, stability, and sector deepening in Ethiopia. The role involves supporting analytical work, policy dialogue, and operational projects that help strengthen the national financial system and promote SME growth.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Finance, Economics, Business, or related field.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in financial sector development or related areas.
  • Strong knowledge of financial stability, inclusion, and deepening concepts.
  • Proven experience working with international organizations, donors, or financial institutions.
  • Familiarity with World Bank Group policies, trust funds, and operations.
  • Ability to lead analytical studies and design lending and technical assistance programs.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and policy dialogue skills.
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
  • Experience in Ethiopia or the wider African financial sector is an asset.

🔹 Position 2: Lead Economist

Key Responsibilities

The Lead Economist will provide high-level economic analysis and policy advice to support Ethiopia’s growth, macroeconomic management, and fiscal reform agenda. The role requires strategic leadership in analytical work and development policy operations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in Economics with a minimum of 12 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Expertise in macroeconomic policy, fiscal management, and economic growth analysis.
  • Demonstrated record of producing high-impact analytical and advisory reports.
  • Experience in development policy operations and familiarity with World Bank procedures.
  • Ability to integrate sectoral issues into a broader development framework.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong client orientation and capacity for policy dialogue at the highest levels.
  • Experience working in transitional or emerging economies is highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex assignments and meet tight deadlines.
