The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) is one of the five regional commissions under the UN, established to promote economic and social development in Africa. About the Internship

This Economic Affairs Internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to ECA’s mission of building an empowered and transformed Africa. Interns will work closely with the Technology, Innovation, Connectivity, and Infrastructure Development Division (TICID) to support economic policy, innovation, and private sector development initiatives.


Responsibilities and Learning Objectives

  • Support research, data analysis, and policy development in economic affairs and innovation.
  • Assist in drafting reports, briefs, and concept notes on economic diversification and investment.
  • Participate in workshops, meetings, and capacity-building sessions.
  • Contribute to ECA’s inclusion and gender parity strategies through outreach and communication support.
  • Engage in activities promoting sustainable development and digital transformation across Africa.

Qualifications / Special Skills

To qualify for the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

  • (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, high school and hold a Diploma.
  • (b) Be enrolled in or in the final academic year of a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. program.
  • (c) Have recently completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree.

Applicants must indicate which category applies and attach proof during application. An official certificate will be required later.

Experience:

  • No prior work experience is required.
  • Applicants should have academic training, research, or coursework relevant to economic development, innovation, or international relations.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English (knowledge of French is an asset).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data analysis tools.
  • Commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Internship Details

  • Visa & Travel: Interns are responsible for travel, accommodation, visa, and living expenses.
