Role: Africa Investment Advisor (AIA) – Horn of Africa
The Africa Investment Advisor will support the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) in advancing private sector investment in Sub-Saharan Africa. The role involves business development and transaction support, with activities covering:
- Transaction Origination: Identify and evaluate investment opportunities across multiple sectors.
- Due Diligence Support: Assist with data collection, verification, and transaction execution.
- Performance Monitoring: Support post-financial close monitoring and impact assessment.
- Field Presence Support: Represent DFC in local markets, liaise with U.S. Embassy teams, and engage with stakeholders.
This role requires up to 50% travel within the Horn of Africa and occasional international travel.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct business development meetings with sponsors, developers, and financiers
- Screen and vet investment opportunities for DFC involvement
- Support transaction documentation for committees and financial close
- Monitor post-execution performance and ensure compliance
- Train local embassy teams on DFC products and financing criteria
- Participate in conferences, embassy meetings, and investor events
- Provide ongoing reporting, pipeline tracking, and stakeholder engagement
Qualifications

Experience: Minimum 5 years in investment banking, project finance, development finance, private equity, or related fields
- At least 3 years in emerging markets
- At least 2 years in Sub-Saharan Africa
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required (Finance, Economics, Business, or related fields)

Skills:
- Strong project structuring, corporate finance, and financial modeling
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English (French desirable for Francophone regions)
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong professional network in Sub-Saharan Africa
